Kapamilya star Inigo Pascual discussed the differences between TV productions in the Philippines and the United States of America at the media conference for his US TV series, Monarch, on September 12, 2022.
Pascual cited that TV shows in the US have a similar process to the Philippines’ movie productions, indicating a difference in the number of sequences they needed to film in a day.
“I guess working on a TV show is like working on movie production in the Philippines. We don’t do more than four to six sequences a day. Sa Pilipinas kasi, I mean– we can’t compare it–we live in times where the weather is more extreme in the Philippines.
“Siyempre, hindi alam ng maraming tao na we sometimes do twenty to thirty sequences a day–where as in the Philipines. I’ve been in Atlanta for almost eight months, and we would only do four to six sequences a day. So, grabe ‘yung trabahong ginagawa ng mga Pinoy.”
He acknowledged the benefit of his experience in the teleseryes in the Philippines, especially in portraying his role in Monarch.
“Grabe ‘yung training na nagawa ko in the Philippines, to be able to memorize. To be able to– to be able to practice emotions within a day, wherein you’re mad, you’re happy, you’re sad, twenty sequences in a day in the Philippines is [a big] training na nakatulong sa akin. Whereas in America, you only do sometimes one [sequence] a day.”
He even admitted that the staff of Monarch would advise him to take a break on the set.
“Yeah, sometimes they would tell you to take a break, they would tell you to relax and siguro ‘yun ‘yung gusto ko mas makita sa Pilipinas na mas mabigyan ‘yung artist ng breathing time, kasi nakaka-bipolar, nakakabigla.”
He then recounted the challenges he faced filming teleseryes in the Philippines while noting the distinctions between the filming environment in the country and the US.
“Minsan siguro ‘yun ‘yung mahirap i-explain ng artist sa Pilipinas na kunwari makita mo sila na wala sila sa mood, di ninyo alam na siguro kakatapos lang nila umiyak sa eksena. Kasi, isang ganon, kailangan mong gawin ‘yung isang eksena. Tapos kailangan mong mag-smile sa mga tao na as if nothing happened.
“In the States, it’s more secluded, tama ba ‘yung term, isolated, mas tago ‘yung mga nangyayari. Unlike in the Philippines, umiyak ka, kakasigaw mo lang sa eksena, lalabas ka papunta sa tent mo tapos magha-hi ka sa mga tao. Di nila alam. Tapos matatapos ka ng 3AM didiretso ka ng ASAP ng 6AM wala kang tulog.”
Pascual portrays the role of Ace Grayson, the adopted son of Nicolette “Nicky” Roman (Anna Friel) and Clive Grayson (Adam Croasdell).
