Despite being dubbed as the “most powerful celebrity” by her husband, Paul Soriano, Toni Gonzaga’s MMFF film My Teacher performed poorly, prompting some theaters to pull out the film and replace it with Vice Ganda and Ivana Alawi’s Partners in Crime.

Netizen @tonettesky shared on Monday, December 26, that Cash and Carry Cinema in Makati has already pulled out Gonzaga’s film and got replaced by Vice Ganda’s Partners in Crime due to low ticket sales.

“At Cash and Carry Cinema, #MyTeacher was replaced with #PartnersInCrime . I’d checked the sked online on Dec. 25th. This afternoon, I spoke to Ate Takilyera who confirmed the change. She said hindi daw mabenta yung pinalitan. #MMFF2022…”

Partners in Crime, just like Vice’s previous MMFF movies, is again topping the festival’s box office ranking.

According to the partial unofficial box office ranking of the MMFF movies, Partners in Crime is the number one movie with an estimated 30 million opening day box office receipts.

Meanwhile, aside from Vice’s cinematic charm, which has made him an MMFF brand, the film’s positive reviews and word-of-mouth from netizens are helping boost the film’s box office performance.

In a tweet on Monday, December 26, Star Cinema executive Mico del Rosario apologized to some moviegoers who got displeased because there were no more available cinemas showing Partners in Crime.

He then advised the moviegoers to appeal to the cinema owners to add more cinemas for the Cathy Garcia-Molina film.

“Sa mga nagagalit dahil wala silang mapanooran ng #PartnersInCrime . Sorna. Request na sa mga sinehan for more sinehan!”

@viceyyion meanwhile raved about the film tweeting, “Tangina oo tangina ANG GANDA GANDA!!!!! Ito talaga yung totoong comeback, may resibo!!! Yung acting, yung cinematography, yung kanta LAHAT PANALO. Pero mas panalo iyaaak ko. So proud of you @vicegandako #PartnersInCrimeNowShowing.”

@officialKpex, on the other hand, congratulated Vice, Alawi, and Star Cinema for the success of the film together with a clip of long lines of people wanting to watch the movie.

“Congratulations @vicegandako @StarCinema @IvanaAlawi No. 1 movie na naman sa MMFF ang #PartnersInCrime #PartnersInCrimeNowShowing di ko kinayang irecord hanggang dulo ng pila, ang habaaaaa!!!nakakatamad maglakad.”
