The It’s Showtime performance of the Idol Philippines alumna and PBB winner did not sit well with netizens, who found her rendition forced and awkward.

Pinoy Big Brother Season 10 winner, Anji Salvacion, is in hot water after allegedly ‘murdering’ the Olivia Rodrigo song, Happier, on It’s Showtime on January 11. Her rendition caught the attention of many netizens and spawned several unflattering reactions.

Twitter user @dyesebelblythe argued that the young Kapamilya talent should have chosen another song that fits her voice and vocal abilities better.

This is a great example na porket gusto mo, kaya mo. She literally ruined the song with her pilit na emotion. May binabagayang boses kasi ang mga kanta. Dapat kinanta nalang niya ‘yung original song niya sa PBB na Dalampasigan. She sounds so much better sa original song niya.” said the netizen, who wished Salvacion sang her own track, instead.

“Na hindi bagay sa boses and song niya yung intentional squeak and it can damage her vocals din,” she added, noting Salvacion’s intentional squeaks.

“Sakit sa tenga, “ Jover Laurio a.k.a. Pinoy Ako lamented,  which another Twitter user, @fernski06 agreed to. “Masakit talaga sa tenga, even my 9 year old daughter hindi nagustuhan ang pagkanta nya. Sabi ba naman; Daddy, who’s that? She’s so noisy. Where’s the gong?,”

“Tunog rubber ducky na pinanggigigilan iyong pagpiyok-piyok niya. Even the audience agrees. Y’all heard that muted applause, right? Inuuna kasi kaartehan e. Ammacana Anji, “ said @supernegatrona who noted the underwhelming response from the live studio audience.

“Insulto talaga ito kina Lucas Garcia at Lance Busa na siyang runners-up ng Idol Philippines Season 1,” tweeted @AltA2Z11, who noted Salvacion’s fellow Idol Philippines alumni, who are not getting the same spotlight as hers.

Not all gave unflattering comments about Salvacion, as most of her fans came to her rescue. They defended her from bashers. “we needn’t be so harsh though. feel bad for her cause once something is out in the internet it’s there forever– like this performance. BUT she can always bounce back & redeem herself. She just needs a vocal coach that can help her pick songs that suit her range & singin style ig,” pleaded @justlookin0880.

@onlykdanimetwt pointed out the tendency of many Filipinos to be hypocritical when it comes to whom they criticize for “bad” singing.

“This is why I hate pinoys kakaloka you guys supported kathryn and anne c. ‘singing’ eme career platinum pa nga diva pero when it comes to this girl anji who can def sing (wrong choice of song tlga) grabe na yung shady comments agad like???,” her tweet reads.

Thank you for making her relevant. Someday she can turn her doubters to fans

“BEST OF LUCK ANJI, “ said  Team Anji, who assured Salvacion’s doubters that she will prove them wrong, someday.

Salvacion is currently one of ABS-CBN’s fastest-rising young stars, with multiple projects and showbiz engagements under her belt. She is a regular in the Sunday noontime musical variety program, ASAP Natin ‘To, and is expected to debut as an actress in the upcoming primetime drama series, Linlang.
