At the media conference for Hearts On Ice on March 3, Kapuso artist Ashley Ortega highlighted her winning over 80 medals as a competitive figure skater.

Ortega listed the competitions she participated in, including the ones in Thailand, China, Japan, and in Malaysia.

“Both po, I started skating at [the age of] three until twelve years old– I was a competitive figure skater [that] time. I would compete abroad representing our country. So nakapag-compete na rin ako sa Asia, Japan–my first country na pinag-compete-an ko was Thailand, tapos nag-China ako, tapos Japan, and then Malaysia. Then the rest, dito na sa Philippines.”

She then explained that each competition had her participate in various events, which led her to bag over 80 medals in her figure skating career.

“Hindi ko na po mabilang eh, pero usually when we compete abroad kasi sinasalihan namin mga sampung events, kasi there are different kinds of like mga genres, may artistic, may technical, so maraming klase. So everytime we would compete abroad, usually six kinds of performances ‘yung mga ginagawa namin, eh marami na ‘yun. So siguro mga nasa mga 80 ganon.”

As for her most memorable experience, she cited the figure skating competition in Thailand and Malaysia.

“Siguro ‘yung sa Thailand, kasi that was the first country that I competed abroad. At tsaka ‘yung sa Thailand kasi ‘yun ‘yung parang pinakamagandang medal na nakuha ko. And then memorable din ‘yung nag-compete ako sa Malaysia kasi parang I brought home eight gold medals that time. I was the Filipino who brought home the plentiest gold medal.”

Ortega stars in the Kapuso series Hearts on Ice with Xian Lim.

The Kapuso series also features Amy Austria, Rita Avila, Tonton Gutierrez, Lito Pimentel, Ina Feleo, Cheska Iñigo, Kim Perez, Ruiz Gomez, Roxie Smith, Shuvee Etrata, and Skye Chua.

According to reports, Filipino Olympic figure skater Michael Martinez also has a special appearance in the upcoming Kapuso series.

Under the direction of Dominic Zapata, Hearts on Ice premieres March 13 on GMA Telebabad.
