‘It’s Showtime’ host Ryan Bang admitted that he received acting projects in his home country Korea.
On April 28, Ryan Bang interviewed Star Magic head Lauren Dyogi on Star Magic Celebrity Conversations. The TV host said that he recalled the time he was offered to be part of a South Korean entertainment group.
Bang shared, “Nung close kami ni Ate Dara (Sandara Park), kinausap sa akin dati ‘yung company niya, kinukuha sa akin five years training tapos na-meet ko ‘yung Lee Soo-man, ‘yung pinaka-head ng SM. Gusto talaga nila ako 100% doon. Nagpunta pa ako SM Town, nag-one-on-one interview pa kami. Interested talaga sila. Mayroon kasi sila SM ENT. SM kasi K-pop ‘yon, SM ENT ‘yun ‘yung parang pang-TV, pang-komedyante, pang-host. So gusto nila akong kunin roon.”
He also explained that he did not push through with the offer as he felt unsure about it at the time. But the offer opened many guesting opportunities for him in several Korean shows.
Bang narrated, “Nung nabasa ko, parang alam mo ‘yon, hindi ka bibili ng damit, kung hindi mo pa talaga gusto. So parang wala pa sa puso ko na i-grab ko ang chance ng SM. Sabi ng mga magulang ko naman nung nasa Korea pa ako, bahala ka desisyon mo ‘yan.”
The comedian-TV host second-guessed the offer since he was not allowed to visit the Philippines; he felt his freedom was restricted. He furthered, “Sa Korea grabe, mahigpit parang walang freedom. Eh grabe ang ugali ko, ang personality ko ay parang Pilipino na talaga ako, so nag-decide na ako na mag-stay dito. Pero dahil doon ay nagge-guest ako sa iba-ibang show. Nag-translator ako kay Sen. Pacquiao sa Infinity Challenge. Nag-guest ako sa mga documentary, nagge-guest ako sa mga travel shows.”
Bang also revealed that he was offered acting projects in Korea. He seemed determined to accept the offer but the pandemic held him back.
“Ngayon nag-o-offer sa akin ng mga teleserye, mga sidekick. Hindi ako nagpaalam sa iyo, kaya ako nag-braces. Kasi gusto ng mga director doon ay perfect ang ngipin bago ako magsalang sa mga movie nila. May kinukuha sa akin na movie, teleserye, eh nag-pandemic bigla. So ‘yung mga ganoon tatanggapin ko na Direk,” he said.
But even if Bang appeared in Korean dramas, he would still prefer to stay in the Philippines.
“Guest guest lang, pero gusto ko talaga nakatira dito,” he said.
