Emerging from the western suburbs of Adelaide with her debut single “FERN” in late 2022, newcomer aleksiah has been acquiring the love and support of fans and the industry alike at an astonishingly rapid pace.
Now it is time for more admiration to pour in with the release of her follow up single “Ant Song”.
Taking cues from modern-day, female-identifying indie rock heroines, including Phoebe Bridgers, Julia Jacklin, Clairo, Lucy Dacus and quinnie, “Ant Song” arrives with a level of maturity and confidence that sounds like she’s already on equal pegging with those heavyweight names.
A flourishing pool of misty ambience and layered acoustics, aleksiah talks through her new single, “It’s an embodiment of every positive memory, emotion and view I have about love, and they all stem from the love that had been shown to me for the very first time by my partner. I was reminiscing about the bad vices we had at the time we met, menthol cigarettes and rum & drys, and the song literally wrote itself. “It’s a celebration of the unconditional tenderness, intimacy and joy that comes from being in love, and I hope everyone that listens to it can feel all warm and giddy inside. Always remember that somewhere in this world, someone loves you, and they will never stop.”
Her melodic story-driven music is influenced by early listening to artists as diverse as Fleetwood Mac and Creedence Clearwater Revival, but also Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston.
“I think my music is a mixture of whimsy and reality, light and dark. Like a good Wes Anderson film”, hoping that people will take away some happiness and a feeling of being uplifted from her songs.
triple j have been raving about aleksiah with “FERN” with praise such as “the best debut upload of last year”.
They then doubled down, handpicking her as their Unearthed choice for the Wayville edition of Groovin the Moo 2023. aleksiah’s upward trajectory continues. She has already shared the stage and supported the likes of Lime Cordiale and Kita Alexander. She recently signed to leading Australian artist management company, Chugg Music (Lime Cordiale, Teenage Dads) and leading talent agency Select Music (Amy Shark, Stella Donnelly) for live representation.
In addition to her debut headline shows, she will also be hitting the road supporting Teenage Dads later this year. Earlier this week, she was chosen by TikTok as one of four special guest artists to take place in TikTok Song Hubs 2023. aleksiah will be one of 11 emerging songwriters, artists and producers collaborating on new commercially-viable songs at the end of July, ahead of Adelaide’s Indie-Con.
The songwriting residency is a partnership with APRA AMCOS, TikTok, Sound On and the Music Development Office (SA).
