On September 24, Kapuso star Bianca Umali highlighted the benefit of WorldVision Philippines’ #GirlsCan Campaign for young women.

During the media event for World Vision Philippines’ #GirlsCan campaign at the Ayala Malls Manila Bay, which LionhearTV covered, Umali emphasized how the #GirlsCan Campaign would help educate young women, citing its connection to World Vision International’s 1000 Girls Campaign.

“A lot of children, especially, little girls, do not have the means at all to educate themselves, to secure themselves from violence, to determine their own future, and that alone to take care of themselves. This is why WorldVision Philippines came up with the GirlsCan campaign, in line with the 1000 Girls campaign of WorldVision International.”

She remarked how World Vision’s campaigns sought to help promote self-sufficiency for young women.

“These campaigns seek our help to break barriers that stand in the way of little girls, to determine their education, to [determine] their security from violence, to determine their own future, and to [determine] their means to take care of themselves.”

Umali then cited the value of the #GirlsCan Campaign for young women in the Philippines.

“I do hope that we get more opportunities such as this kasi napakalaging bagay po na [we] get to talk about [the things that] we can do for the world and [for] the children. Thank you so much, WorldVision.”

She also revealed her realizations about the meaning of self-care for women.

“Self-care doesn’t [just] necessarily mean keeping up with appearances, self-care means different things. It can come in [different] forms–may [that] be mental, spiritual, physical, emotional, or even financial.

“Taking care of myself is [tantamount] to [taking care of] others.”

As for the campaign, World Vision Philippines’ #GirlsCan aims to recognize the unique struggles of young women in the country and globally while promoting their rights and empowerment.

The campaign event brought together advocates, stakeholders, and experts to share their views and knowledge while fostering a network of opportunities for young women. They also discussed World Vision’s #GirlsCan achievements and future goals.

The #GirlsCan Campaign event underscored inspirational talks from empowered Filipinas such as Bianca Umali, Ayn Bernos, Joyce Pring-Triviño, and many more.
