Actress Bela Padilla shared her thoughts on the frequency of breakups in relationships during a segment of ‘It’s Showtime’ on Monday, August 11.
The conversation was sparked by the story of Abby, the featured searcher on ‘EXpecially For You,’ who revealed that she had gone through four breakups during her eight-year-and-five-month relationship with her ex-boyfriend.
Abby was accompanied by her mother, Mommy Jacqueline, as she recounted the emotional challenges she faced. After hearing Abby’s story, OPM singer and host Ogie Alcasid turned to his female co-hosts with a pressing question, “Is that rare na madaming beses na mag-break up?”
He further asked, “O ‘di ba ewan ko sa inyo gusto ko malaman sa inyo kung isang breakup lang okay na ‘yun o pagbibigyan n’yo pa? Nangyayari ba talaga ‘yun?”
Bela Padilla responded candidly, saying, “Feeling ko lang sa [tumingin kay Kim Chiu] alam ko lang, parang medyo parehas kami, magkaugali kami. Parang kami ‘pag break, break.”
Kim Chiu, Padilla’s close friend, echoed her sentiments, adding, “‘Pag ayaw mo na, e di huwag na. Bakit na-open ‘yung topic na gusto mo na hiwalayan ako, so, ibig sabihin.”

Amy Perez, another host on the show, offered a different perspective. She suggested that some couples engage in a cycle of breaking up and reconciling as a way of testing their relationship.
“Meron naman iba kasi ang nangyayari parang sa relationship para i-test mo ‘yung love for each other lagi kayo naghahamunan ng hiwalay,” Perez explained. She shared her own experience, saying, “Na minsan nakakatakot, parang dare ‘yun ‘yung naka-experience ko nung bata ako. Pero nung araw kasi, ganun, parang nagpapasiklaban sa pag-dare. Konting kibot, ayoko na hiwalay na tayo! Tapos gusto niya wini-winback siya.”
Ogie, still curious, asked, “Pero hindi n’yo meant ‘yun?”
“Hindi!” Perez clarified. “Pero ang nakakatakot kapag nasanay either ‘yung girl or ‘yung boy na ginagawa ‘yun. ‘Pag kinall ‘yun ang nakakatakot.”
