Basketball star-turned-politician James Yap recently shared that he has not seen his son, Bimby Aquino Yap, in over 10 years.
Yap made the revelation during an interview on October 8, after officially filing his certificate of candidacy (COC) for re-election as a councilor in San Juan City’s first district.
“Ten years na,” Yap admitted when asked about his current relationship with Bimby, his son with television host and actress Kris Aquino.
Yap and Aquino were married in 2005 through a civil ceremony, and Bimby was born in 2007. However, the couple separated in 2010, and since then, Yap has not had contact with his son.

As Yap campaigns for a second term in the 2025 elections, his candidacy has drawn attention to his personal life, particularly his estrangement from Bimby. Despite this, Yap continues to focus on his career in politics and basketball.
If re-elected, this will mark Yap’s second term as a councilor in San Juan City, where he has been committed to public service since taking office.
