What to expect at the 30th Critics Choice Awards
TELEVISION
With a list of nominees as prestigious as the Critics Choice, it’s shaping up to be an exciting night. The competition for television is fierce, with FX series Shōgun emerging as a frontrunner with six nominations, including Best Drama Series. Cast members were also recognized in different categories: Hiroyuki Sanada for Best Actor in a Drama Series, Anna Sawai for Best Actress in a Drama Series, and more.
Other top contenders for TV include Abbott Elementary, Disclaimer, Hacks, The Diplomat, The Penguin, and What We Do in the Shadows – each garnering an impressive four nominations.
Further demonstrating the diversity of TV this year, hit shows such as Nobody Wants This, Only Murders in the Building, and Baby Reindeer garnered significant recognition with three nominations each.
FILM
For film, Jon M. Chu’s Wicked and Edward Berger’s Conclave dominated the film nominees with 11 nominations each, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Acting Ensemble.
Ralph Fiennes and Cynthia Erivo received Best Actor and Best Actress nods for their performances in Conclave and Wicked, respectively, while Ariana Grande was recognized for her supporting role in Wicked.
Trans musical Emilia Pérez and epic period drama The Brutalist, both big Golden Globe winners, are also major contenders with ten and nine nominations each, respectively, setting the stage for fierce competition in categories like Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Score.
Not to be left out of the competition is Dune: Part Two with ten nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director for Denis Villeneuve.
Other notable nominees for film include Gladiator II with four nominations, Anora with seven nods, featuring Mikey Madison for Best Actress, and The Substance with seven nominations, including nods for Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley.
As cherry on top of an already exciting awards show, comedian Chelsea Handler returns to host the Critics Choice Awards for the third consecutive year, promising a night of laughter and entertainment.
