Lady Gaga calls Filipino Drag Queen Precious Paula Nicole a ‘Superstar’

Pop icon Lady Gaga has praised Filipino drag queen Precious Paula Nicole, calling her a “superstar” after a viral performance of Gaga’s latest single, ‘Abracadabra.’

Precious, the winner of ‘Drag Race Philippines’ Season 1, performed the track on February 8 at Rampa queer club in Quezon City, alongside fellow drag artist Popstar Bench, a contestant on the upcoming Drag Race Philippines Season 3.

According to ABS-CBN News’ interview, Bench initially conceptualized a solo performance for Rampa’s anniversary celebration, planning to wear white to match Gaga’s look in the ‘Abracadabra’ music video. However, Precious, as one of the club’s creative heads, suggested they perform as a duo. She opted to wear red, another dominant color in the music video, making the performance visually striking.

On February 11, Precious uploaded a clip of their performance on TikTok and other social media platforms. The next day, Lady Gaga herself took notice and left a comment. “You are a superstar,” Gaga wrote on the TikTok video.

Overwhelmed with excitement, Precious responded: “Thank you, Mother.”

This marks the first time that a global music superstar has personally acknowledged Precious’ drag performances.

Known for her charisma, humor, and powerful stage presence, Precious won ‘Drag Race Philippines’ Season 1 in 2022, earning her spot as one of the top drag artists in the country. Meanwhile, Popstar Bench is one of the finalists of the third season where Maxie Andreison won.

Lady Gaga’s recognition sparked excitement among Filipino LGBTQ+ fans, with many celebrating the moment as a huge milestone for Philippine drag culture.
