At the official launch of Star Magic’s rebranded workshop program—now known as the Star Magic School for the Creative and Performing Arts (SMSCPA)—on March 26, one of the country’s premier P-pop groups, BGYO, gave fans a candid look into their journey and how the training helped shape them into the powerhouse performers they are today.

Before their 2021 debut, BGYO members spent years honing their skills in dance and vocal performance under Star Magic’s rigorous training system. During the launch event held at ABS-CBN Studio 3, the group opened up about their most unforgettable moments and key learnings.

Nate Porcalla shared a humorous memory: “My most memorable moment in Star Magic training was doing vocal warm-ups for the first time—it sounded so bad,” he said with a laugh. “It was all new to me.”

For Akira Morishita, the vocal coaching was vital: “Coach Jerwin [Nicomedes] really helped us improve and become more confident every time we sing on stage.”

Mikki Claver, who didn’t start out as a dancer, highlighted how transformative the experience was: “From a non-dancer, I learned so much from our coaches. They really turned me into the performer I am today.”

JL Toreliza noted the work ethic instilled in them from the start: “Even when no one’s watching, you have to perform like it’s a full crowd.”

Meanwhile, Gelo Rivera emphasized the importance of discipline, something that SMSCPA takes seriously: “From auditions to evaluations until we debuted, the training was holistic. They also taught us self-practice. That made a big difference.”

The newly launched SMSCPA expands on Star Magic’s long-standing commitment to developing talent in Philippine showbiz. With enhanced programs in acting, singing, dancing, and personality development, the institution now caters to both aspiring artists and established performers. Core offerings include the Meisner Core Program for acting, Popshop Workshop for total performance training, and specialized Voice Workshops.

Enrollment opens on March 29-30 and continues on April 5-6 with limited slots available. Interested students may register at forms.abs-cbn.com/starmagicscpa.
