Former actor Kier Legaspi opened up about his relationship with his daughter, Dani Barretto, during an interview with journalist Julius Babao on YouTube.
In the interview, Kier admitted that he and Dani have not been in contact for a long time but stressed that he harbors no resentment toward her.
“I always say, I’m just here. If you want to talk, if you want to meet, I’m here,” Kier said. “At the end of the day, when it’s all said and done, a father’s love and care for his child will always prevail.”
Despite their lack of communication, Kier emphasized that he continues to love his daughter, even if they have faced challenges and differences.
When asked if he feels any bitterness, Kier answered, “Frustration, just a little. It’s more of regret—regret for the lost time. If we had been close, I’m sure there were times in her life when I could have guided her. A mother’s principles are different from a father’s.”
He added, “I regret the time lost, and the moments when she was hurt—moments that shouldn’t have happened.”
Kier also shared that he has long since stopped trying to reach out, believing that Dani has chosen to distance herself from him.
“How can we meet when I’m chasing after you but you’re running away? I’m trying to reach out but you’re hiding,” he said. “So I just left it all to God. I’m still here, always.”
Earlier this month, Dennis Padilla—who helped raise Dani during his relationship with Marjorie Barretto—posted a photo with Kier Legaspi on social media. This came weeks after Kier expressed gratitude to Dennis in an interview for treating Dani as his own during her childhood.
