Negros Occidental 3rd District Representative-elect Javier Miguel “Javi” Benitez has broken his silence over the public dispute between his parents, outgoing Bacolod City Mayor Albee Benitez and Dominique “Nikki” Lopez-Benitez.
In a heartfelt post shared on Saturday, May 31, Javi expressed pain and disappointment over the ongoing issue, which involves a legal complaint filed by his mother under the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act (RA 9262) against his father.
“I didn’t want to speak anymore, but I know I can’t avoid it either,” Javi began. “Those who really know the whole story… are quiet. They’re not in the news. They don’t post either.”
He then offered a sincere appeal: “My only wish is for my parents to still understand each other — not just as our parents, Bettina’s and mine — but, if possible, still as husband and wife.”
Javi also reflected on love and relationships, expressing a desire for something deeper and more genuine.
“I hope that one day, we can also find the right love. The kind that isn’t measured by money, status, or external image… but by respect, tenderness, and true partnership in life,” he said.
The former Victorias City Mayor thanked those who had shown concern during this difficult time:
“I want to thank everyone who quietly showed concern — through a message, a call, or even a simple prayer. Thank you. I know we’re not the only ones in this situation, but I still hope things can be resolved in the end.”
Finally, he addressed the swirl of rumors and media coverage, calling for the public to focus on more pressing matters: “Let’s move on from gossip, fake news, and paid drama. We still have so many things to fix in our country. That’s where we should invest our energy. In the end, a person’s worth isn’t measured by views, likes, or money — but by their heart. Let’s choose to be kind.”
Javi’s statement comes amid public attention over the legal complaint filed by his mother. The camp of Mayor Albee Benitez has denied the allegations, calling them “baseless and retaliatory,” and questioned the timing of the case — filed after annulment proceedings were initiated in 2024.
As the dust settles, Javi Benitez’s appeal stands as a call for grace, empathy, and healing amid the turmoil.
