Veteran comedian and ‘Eat Bulaga’ co-host Joey de Leon couldn’t hide his joy over longtime friend and TVJ trio-mate Tito Sotto’s historic return to the Philippine Senate.
In a proud Instagram post, Joey congratulated Sotto—who has now made history as the only senator in Philippine history to be elected five times.
“Congratulations Tito! Ipinagkakapuri ka namin ng buong Eat Bulaga at ng mga Dabarkads sa isang makasaysayang pangyayari,” Joey wrote.
“Ikaw lang sa kasaysayan ng Senado ng Pilipinas ang nahalal ng LIMANG beses! We are proud of you!”
He accompanied the heartfelt caption with a throwback photo of the iconic TVJ trio—Tito, Vic, and Joey—marking not only a political win, but also a personal and professional milestone for their decades-long friendship.
Sotto, who first entered the Senate in 1992, confirmed during an interview on On Point with Pinky Webb that his latest win cements his place in history.
“With the help of the people and of course, God, this will be my fifth term,” Sotto said.

“I will be the only senator in the history of the Philippines who has been voted in the Senate five times.”
Prior to this victory, the record for most Senate terms was shared by Sotto himself, the late Sen. Lorenzo Tañada, and former Senate President Franklin Drilon—with four terms each.
Sotto has not ruled out another stint as Senate President but also expressed interest in leading the Senate Committee on Ethics, noting: “Ethics spells what is needed to be done in the Senate.”
