Concern and speculation continue to surround the sudden disappearance of 21-year-old VMX (formerly Vivamax) star Karen Lopez, who has not been seen or heard from since Monday, May 5.
According to her talent manager Lito De Guzman, Karen was last seen being picked up by her boyfriend from her condo unit in Quezon City. Since then, both Karen and her boyfriend have become unreachable. Lito has expressed growing worry, noting that Karen has not responded to any messages, calls, or shown activity on social media—an unusual behavior for the normally responsive actress.
The situation became more alarming when Karen failed to show up for the final day of filming for the movie ‘Maalikaya’ on Wednesday, May 7. Director Roman Perez Jr., who helmed the project, confirmed that her absence forced last-minute script revisions and a major reshoot in Upper Antipolo City.
“The night before the shoot, nag-confirm pa si Lito sa associate producer namin na sisipot si Karen sa last shooting day,” said Direk Roman in an interview with PEP’s Cabinet Files on May 8.
In response to the situation, Karen’s mother has filed a blotter report with the Quezon City Police Department. Direk Roman also revealed that he, along with others from the production team, visited Karen’s condo early Wednesday morning to look for her.
“Umakyat kami sa unit niya, mga thirty minutes kaming kumatok pero walang tao. Nakita sa CCTV na sinundo siya ng boyfriend niya. Sinabi rin ng security guard ng condo na may sumundo sa kanya,” he shared.

Direk Roman added that Karen had always been professional and easy to work with, making her sudden disappearance more baffling. There is speculation that Karen’s boyfriend may have objected to her participation in sexy film projects, including ‘Maalikaya’, potentially leading to conflict.
“Ayaw ng boyfriend ni Karen na mag-VMX siya. Baka pinagbawalan siya. Sana maayos ang problema,” said the director.
‘Maalikaya’ also stars Jenn Rosa, Aliya Raymundo, Izza Watanabe, and Sheena Cole, and was forced to proceed with filming despite the key actress’s unexplained absence.
