Kapuso actor Mike Tan has successfully retrieved his lost cellphone just hours after appealing to the public for help, thanks to the quick response of mall security.
On May 25, the actor posted CCTV footage on his Instagram account showing the moment he accidentally left his phone behind at a restaurant. The video also captured a woman picking up the device and quickly leaving the premises.
The following day, May 26, Mike gave an update via Facebook, confirming that his phone had been returned and that he had taken down his earlier social media post.
“Great news: my phone was recovered today! I’ve taken down the original post which already served its purpose, as the mall security team was able to identify the lady when she returned to the same mall,” he wrote.
According to the actor, the woman was also reported by the restaurant staff for bringing in outside food such as canned goods and consuming them inside their establishment.
“Interestingly, the phone had over 247 photos, mostly taken in different restaurants. It didn’t seem like she was ordering anything—just bringing her own food. In two separate places, she brought her own ice cream and a box of bread,” Mike shared.
He added that responding police officers suspect the woman may be experiencing mental health issues, and arrangements were made to refer her to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) for proper care.
Despite the phone case being missing, Mike was relieved that the device remained undamaged and that his personal data was untouched.
“Aside from the missing phone case, the device itself is intact. I don’t believe she accessed any files—and most importantly, all my kids’ photos and videos (which I hadn’t backed up yet) are still there,” he added.
In his post, Mike expressed deep gratitude to everyone who offered support and helped recover his phone.
