Veteran actor and director Ricky Davao has passed away at the age of 63.
His daughter, Ara Davao, confirmed the heartbreaking news through a public Facebook post on Friday afternoon, May 2.
“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Ricky Davao. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his children and loved ones, after bravely facing complications related to cancer,” Ara wrote.
Ricky Davao — born Frederick Charles Caballes Davao — was a widely respected figure in Philippine entertainment, with a career spanning over four decades.
From his memorable performances in films like ‘Saranggola,’ ‘American Adobo’, ‘Mga Pusang Gala’, and ‘F#@bois*’, to his acclaimed work in television and theater, Davao carved a legacy as both a versatile actor and an insightful director.
In her post, Ara described her father not only as a passionate artist but also as “a loving father, brother, son, and friend.” She added, “His remarkable body of work and award-winning performances have left a lasting legacy that will continue to inspire.”
Viva Entertainment also paid tribute to the late actor, posting a simple yet poignant message: “Pahinga ka na, Sir Ricky.”
In 2024, reports surfaced that Davao had been diagnosed with a terminal illness, though his family chose to keep details private. He was previously married to actress Jackie Lou Blanco, with whom he had three children. His passing comes just weeks after the death of Jackie Lou’s mother, Pilita Corrales. Ricky was also the son of legendary actor Charlie Davao and the younger brother of Bing Davao.
Details of Ricky Davao’s memorial service will be announced soon.
