It’s Showtime host Vice Ganda took a stand for body positivity and love that transcends physical appearances during the “Step In the Name of Love” dating segment.

The Wednesday (May 14) episode spotlighted contestant Angela, a plus-size woman searching for a romantic connection, whose experience sparked a meaningful conversation about societal preferences and self-love.
As Angela faced two suitors who stepped back after learning about her size, Vice skillfully steered the discussion toward the topic of physical preferences in dating. With her trademark wit, she posed a thought-provoking question: “Syempre, we respect preferences. Pero ito na nga, ang tanong: gusto mo slim, okay ‘yun, wala namang masama, gusto mo di ba? Pero, what if, nagbago ‘yung babae?, ”.
One suitor, James, who had stepped down after seeing Angela’s photo, offered a heartfelt response:
“Mamahalin ko pa rin sya. Meron na kasing na-build na love, andon na ‘yung commitment, may na-invest ka nang emotion kaya kahit ano magiging hitsura nya, kahit manganak sya o naging mataba sya, mamahalin ko pa rin sya. Lalo na may anak na kayo, for the sake of the family rin”.
Vice nodded in agreement, amplifying his point: “Totoo rin ‘yan, meron tayong preferences, kunwari may gusto tayong payat pero lumaki, yung kahit lumaki pa sya, it won’t matter anymore kasi ‘yung nabuong love mas malaki na kesa physical attraction, ”.
Angela, confident and unapologetic, made her choice clear by asking the suitors who didn’t prefer plus-size women to step down. She shared an empowering message:
“Para sa akin at sa lahat ng kababaihan na nanonood, ‘yung katawan natin, we should be thankful for it, kasi kinarga ako nito sa maraming bagay sa buhay ko, and I’m thankful for it,”.
Addressing the health concerns some raise about weight, she added, “But I respect him, kasi oo naman, healthwise, but still, thankful ako sa katawan ko eh. It’s not my insecurity. I can work on it!”.
Vice closed the segment with an uplifting message for plus-size women: “Sa mga chubby girls, wag nyong ipilit sarili nyo sa mga ayaw sa inyo, kasi marami rin namang may gusto ng chubby!”.
Her words resonated with viewers, sparking praise on social media for championing body positivity and challenging superficial standards in dating.
Angela’s confidence and Vice’s advocacy highlighted a powerful truth: love rooted in genuine connection far outweighs fleeting physical preferences. As Vice reminded everyone, the right person will celebrate you—size and all.
