Kapamilya actor Gerald Anderson has finally addressed the swirling rumors of a breakup with girlfriend Julia Barretto, firmly denying any trouble in their relationship.
In the June 1 episode of ‘Toni Talks’, host Toni Gonzaga brought up the issue, asking Gerald about public speculation that they had split.
“One of the reasons kung bakit pinag-uusapan uli ang relationship ninyo is because everyone thinks na nag-break kayo ni Julia,” Toni said.
Gerald quickly clarified, “No, we’re okay. Kaya nga kanina hinatid ko siya sa airport, papunta silang Dubai. Kaya medyo napaaga ako.”
He also expressed dismay over how social media has become the main basis for judging the state of a relationship. “’Dun ‘yung basehan kung naka-follow ba, naka-unfollow ba? Andun ‘yung pictures, wala ‘yung pictures? Nakakalungkot na ‘yun na ‘yung basehan,” he lamented.
Gerald took the opportunity to praise Julia, calling her “mapagmahal” and “very motherly,” noting how she takes after her mom, Marjorie Barretto. Despite a seven-year age gap, he described Julia as “mature” and emotionally supportive.
“’Yung values na meron siya, ‘yung love na binibigay niya, ‘yung support na binibigay niya, it inspires me to just be better and give her ‘yung 100% ko, always ‘yung best version ko,” he said.
The couple, whose relationship began after filming ‘Between Maybes’ in 2019, has now been together for five years. Gerald admitted they’ve faced challenges, but said those experiences only strengthened their bond.
“Maraming bumps in the road but… it made us even stronger. When you go through something like that and you see ‘yung partner mo is emotionally strong and supporting you, parang you know na it was worth it,” he shared.
As for marriage, Gerald revealed he is ready to take the next step. “Kailangan ko na ng anak,” he said candidly. While he did not confirm any concrete plans, he agreed with Toni’s sentiment that it will happen “one day.”
Gerald and Julia have yet to release an official statement, but his comments on ‘Toni Talks’ may be enough to put an end to the rumors—at least for now.
