Award-winning actors Rhian Ramos and JC Santos team up for the first time in ‘Meg & Ryan’, a nuanced romantic film about chance encounters, inner wounds, and the kind of love that embraces imperfection. The film opens in cinemas nationwide on August 6 under Pocket Media Films.

‘Meg & Ryan’ tells the story of two strangers whose lives collide over a whimsical bet. She’s impulsive, he’s cautious — but what begins as a fleeting challenge turns into an unforgettable night that blurs the line between coincidence and destiny.
Written by Gina Marissa Tagasa and directed by Catherine O. Camarillo (DGPI), the film is Camarillo’s first solo production as a director and producer. It follows her 2024 co-produced romance films ‘Chances Are You and I’ and ‘That Kind of Love’, both acclaimed for their emotional depth and visual storytelling.

JC Santos said he was immediately drawn to the material. “Bago sa akin ‘tong script na ’to. Habang binabasa ko siya, nararamdaman ko na ‘yung kilig and everything,” he said. “Gusto ko rin talagang makatrabaho si Direk Cathy and si Rhian. Sabi ko, this is going to be a different flavor.”
He praised Rhian for her performance, calling it one of her most complex portrayals yet. “Ibang Rhian ‘yung mapapanood sa movie namin. Ngayon ko lang siya napanood na ganoon. At ako, nag-enjoy ako, sobra.”
For Rhian, it was the script’s honesty and emotional depth that captivated her. “I really love complex characters, especially ‘yung may flaws talaga,” she shared. “This story reflects how I view love — that we all have our own journeys, struggles with mental health, personal traumas. When you find someone who understands and accepts all that, that’s love worth telling.”
She added that her admiration for Direk Cathy’s previous work sealed the decision. “Napanood ko ‘yung ginawa ni Direk Cathy with Barbie and David. It was visually beautiful and full of heart. I wanted to be part of that kind of movie.”

Joining the cast are seasoned and rising talents including Ces Quesada, Cris Villanueva, Jef Gaitan, Cedrick Juan, and introducing J-mee Katanyag, Steven Bansil, Poca Osinaga, and Alison Black. The film’s creative team includes cinematographer Eli Balce, editors Vanessa Ubas De Leon and Ramil Pasible, and assistant director Ritchie Rono.
With both lead stars currently on a strong streak in their respective careers — Rhian with ‘Sinagtala’ and ‘Unconditional’, JC with ‘I Remember You’ and the upcoming ‘Isang Daang Awit Para Kay Stella’ and ‘Quezon’ — ‘Meg & Ryan’ is poised to be a must-watch romance that dares to explore vulnerability and connection in unexpected ways.
