Arnold Clavio hits back at Mayor Vico Sotto over allegations against Korina Sanchez, Julius Babao

Veteran broadcast journalist Arnold Clavio has spoken out against Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto over his recent statements suggesting that journalists accepted money in exchange for interviews with contractors-turned-politicians Sarah and Curlee Discaya.

In a lengthy Instagram post on Friday, August 22, the Kapuso anchor directly addressed the issue, challenging Sotto to present proof of his claims.

Clavio stressed that the mayor’s insinuations not only affected Julius Babao and Korina Sanchez but the entire journalism profession.

He also advised Sotto not to exploit the issue for political interests.

Respeto. Walang Personalan,” Clavio added.

The controversy stems from Sotto’s Facebook post on Thursday, August 21, where he questioned the ethics of “well-known journalists” who allegedly agreed to interview the Discayas for ₱10 million. While he did not directly name names, Sotto included screenshots of past interviews conducted by Babao and Sanchez.

… not an exact figure pero alam nyo na.”

Clavio ended his message by questioning the mayor’s knowledge of the media profession and called for mutual respect.

… May trabaho ka. May trabaho rin kami. Respeto. Walang Personalan,” he wrote.
