Kapuso actress and host Gabbi Garcia has sparked online buzz after posting a meaningful Instagram update that many netizens interpreted as a subtle swipe at the children of politicians and contractors allegedly linked to the anomalous flood control projects.

On Friday, Aug. 29, Garcia uploaded clips from her past travels abroad with the text overlay: “Rich in life ’cause I can travel the world & live my best days with my own hard-earned money.”
In her caption, she reinforced the message, writing: “Amen, yes to hard-earned money and self-made queens!!”
The post came at the height of public criticism against so-called “nepo babies”—children of contractors and political figures accused of flaunting designer goods, luxury cars, and lavish trips online, allegedly funded by taxpayers’ money.

Several celebrities and public figures praised Garcia for her statement. Broadcast journalist Karen Davila commented, “Exactly. Hard-earned money!” while actor Gil Cuerva wrote, “This is the only acceptable flex! Hard-earned money.” Singer Angeline Quinto also left heart-eyed emojis, showing support.
Netizens likewise echoed approval: “Go girl, gamitin ang brilyante! Not the tax money. Enjoy life kesa ambag lang tayo [nang] ambag sa good life ng iba jan.” “Mabuhay ang mga nagigising nang maaga, nagpupuyat, nagtatrabaho ng marangal para kumita.”
However, others cautioned against the timing, with one user noting, “We never ask naman. And you don’t have to prove it girl unless guilty ka. Bakit need magparinig?”
While Garcia did not directly name anyone in her post, many online linked it to the ongoing flood control corruption controversy, which has drawn reactions from fellow celebrities including Vice Ganda, Anne Curtis, Bianca Gonzalez, Pokwang, and Nadine Lustre.
