It was a night of laughter and tears at the 37th PMPC Star Awards for Television, as ‘Bubble Gang’ stars Paolo Contis and Chariz Solomon scored back-to-back victories as Best Comedy Actor and Best Comedy Actress.

In his acceptance speech, Paolo first turned serious as he dedicated the honor to his late manager and mother figure, Lolit Solis, who passed away in April 2024.
“Thank you to PMPC sa pagbibigay ng importansya sa comedy. Sa hirap ng pagpapatawa ngayon. Gusto lang namin magpasaya ng tao. That’s all that we want. So chill!” Paolo began.
He then grew emotional as he recalled his long relationship with Lolit before suddenly shifting the tone with a signature joke:
“Inaalay ko itong award kay Nay Lolit… actually, gusto ko nga ipa-cremate na rin itong trophy para isama sa urn niya,” Paolo quipped, earning laughter from the audience as he quickly “cambyo’d” after the remark.
The bittersweet moment perfectly captured Paolo’s gratitude and his comedic instinct, even while remembering someone dear to him.

Hosts Boy Abunda and Pops Fernandez agreed with Paolo’s sentiments about the challenges of doing comedy today.
“Hindi madali maging komedyante sa mga araw na ito,” Boy noted, comparing the struggles of modern comedians with the late Joan Rivers’ observation that political correctness had made comedy more complicated. Pops, meanwhile, stressed: “We need to laugh.”
Following Paolo’s win, Chariz Solomon also took the stage to receive her Best Comedy Actress trophy, echoing her co-star’s message: “Kami po, hindi na namin tinitingnan kung ano ‘yung makukuha namin. We just work because we love our job. We work for our families. It makes us happy to make people happy, and that’s what we need right now in the world.”
The double triumph comes as ‘Bubble Gang’ approaches its 30th anniversary, a rare milestone for Philippine television. Paolo and Chariz’s wins highlight not only the show’s legacy but also the continuing value of comedy in uplifting audiences during difficult times.
