Actress Claudine Barretto has reacted to the confirmed breakup of her niece Julia Barretto and actor Gerald Anderson.
On Thursday, September 18, Star Magic released an official statement confirming that its artists had ended their relationship.
“Star Magic confirms that Gerald Anderson and Julia Barretto have mutually decided to end their relationship,” the agency announced on its official social media pages.
“We request the public to respect their decision and refrain from spreading false narratives. Gerald and Julia are grateful to their fans and friends for the love and support,” it added.
Following the announcement, Claudine shared Star Magic’s post and left a short but heartfelt message for Julia: “Mama is here Juls. [broken heart emoji].”
In past interviews, Claudine admitted she had “no idea” about the rumored breakup until the official confirmation. Speaking with Ogie Diaz, she said: “I have no idea. Puro naririnig ko rin lang, ang daming mga fake news, may kung sino-sinong babae, Gigi, may ganiyan-ganiyan… Arci… napatunayan mo na fake.”
Ogie also asked Claudine about Gerald’s rumored link to volleyball star Vanie Gandler of the Cignal HD Spikers, with speculation sparked by the actor’s frequent presence at volleyball games.
“Ay hindi pa kami nag-abot, buti na lang,” Claudine remarked, before hinting that her volleyball “babies” had told her a different story: “Hindi ’yan ang ikinuwento sa akin ng mga babies ko sa volleyball. Secret!”
Pressed further on why she stopped attending volleyball matches, Claudine said bluntly: “Siya! Ayoko nang makita.”
She clarified, however: “Wala naman akong galit sa bata, hindi ko lang siya gusto, puwede naman ’yon ’di ba?”
Meanwhile, fashion site Fashion Pulis reported that Julia herself is now being linked to businessman Lucas Lorenzo, brother of Claudia Barretto’s husband Basti Lorenzo.
As of press time, neither Julia nor Gerald has issued a personal statement regarding the breakup or the new rumors.
