Veteran actor and restaurateur Marvin Agustin has expressed his dismay over the worsening corruption in the Philippines, saying that while he continues to love the country, it has become increasingly difficult to do so.

Agustin shared his sentiments on Threads on Thursday, Sept. 4, amid the ongoing controversy surrounding alleged ghost flood-control projects of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
“Lunod na lunod tayo ngayon—hindi lang dahil sa baha, kundi dahil sa matinding corruption,” he wrote.
He also pointed out the distinction between those who are sincerely speaking out versus those who appear to be doing so only for clout.
“At sa dami ng nagsasalita ngayon, malinaw na malinaw sino ang speaking up with intention, at sino ang speaking up for attention,” Agustin said.
Despite his frustration, the actor declared his enduring love for the country.
“Haaay Pilipinas mahal na mahal pa rin kita, ang hirap hirap lang talaga,” he added.
Fans and netizens quickly agreed with Agustin, with many echoing his frustrations about corruption and its impact on ordinary Filipinos. Some lamented how those involved in anomalies continue to flaunt their lavish lifestyles while taxpayers suffer the consequences.
The flood-control scandal has sparked wider criticism, particularly toward contractors and relatives of officials accused of benefiting from billions worth of questionable projects.
Agustin joins a growing list of celebrities who have spoken out on the issue, including Anne Curtis, Vice Ganda, Alden Richards, Gabbi Garcia, Pokwang, Bianca Gonzalez, and Jodi Sta. Maria, all calling for accountability and transparency in government spending.
