Comedian Michael V. is set to debut Ciala Dismaya—his parody of embattled contractor Sarah Discaya—on the September 14 episode of ‘Bubble Gang’.
The skit comes after Discaya’s appearance at the September 1 Senate Blue Ribbon Committee hearing on anomalous flood control projects went viral, with many netizens pointing out her striking resemblance to the veteran comedian.
At first, ‘Bubble Gang’ teased fans by superimposing Bitoy’s face on Discaya’s hearing photo, before confirming the full impersonation with a new character.
Michael V. admitted he immediately saw the resemblance himself.
“Actually una kong napansin ‘yan sa Senate hearing. Ako mismo napansin ko na, parang kamukha ko siya, konting effort na lang magagaya ko na siya,” he said.
The comedian shared he initially did not plan to do the impersonation, but eventually pitched the idea after receiving a flood of requests online—only to find out the creative team had the same thought.
“Hindi ko muna inisip na gayahin right away. Pero dahil sa dami ng messages na nagpa-flood sa feed ko, binato ko na agad sa creative team ng Bubble Gang. And they had the same idea rin pala,” he explained.
Discaya’s lawyer Cornelio Samaniego earlier said his client took no offense at the parody. “Okay lang sa kanya… Sir Michael, trabaho niya ‘yun. Doon siya kilala. So, bakit tayo magagalit?” he said.
Michael V. also clarified that the skit will reference the Senate issues but will remain lighthearted.
“Kung ano ‘yung issue sa Senado, ‘yun din ang issue na tinackle namin. Pero as usual with the Bubble Gang formula, kailangan ilihis mo ng konti at humorous siya. Ang attempt namin ay hindi para manira ng tao kundi para magpatawa ng mga tao,” he stressed.
Even before the full reveal, fans were quick to recognize him from the teaser showing only his back.
“Nagulat ako dahil nakatalikod pa lang, ‘di pa nga nila nakikita ‘yung mukha, na-excite na agad ‘yung mga tao. Abangan ninyo this Sunday, mas lalo kayong matutuwa sa inihanda namin,” he teased.
Michael V. will be joined in the sketch by Betong Sumaya and Matt Lozano as Senators Rodante Marcoleta and Jinggoy Estrada, while Analyn Barro plays a character named “Sen. Mimani.”
‘Bubble Gang’ airs every Sunday night on GMA Network.
