British Council champions resilient English teaching across ASEAN with groundbreaking online conference

In response to the evolving demands of English language  education across Southeast Asia, the British Council today announced the ASEAN TeachingEnglish  Online Conference 2025: Adapting to Change, an innovative, multi-format professional development  event aimed at English language teachers, educators, and policy-makers across ASEAN.

Running from 14 to 30 October 2025, the online conference will provide free, high-impact training and  thought leadership to support English language professionals working in complex and rapidly evolving  educational environments. From the rise of AI in classrooms to policy shifts across ASEAN nations,  English language teaching faces increasing pressure to adapt. This conference is designed not just to  respond—but to lead. It also reflects the British Council’s commitment to supporting regional development  goals through English language education as a tool for opportunity, connection, and innovation.

“As ASEAN nations navigate rapid social, economic, and technological change, English remains a vital  enabler of regional integration, mobility, and opportunity. This conference is a platform for cross-cultural  collaboration, innovation, and resilience. By bringing together educators from across the region, we are

not only sharing effective practices but also shaping a more connected and adaptive future for English  language teaching in Southeast Asia,” said Eilidh Hamilton, Regional Cultural Engagement Director,  East Asia.

Unlike traditional webinars or static presentations, the 2025 conference will feature: live and recorded  keynote sessions with global and regional experts in adaptive teaching, expert panels focused on cross border collaboration and resilience strategies, short-form teaching showcases from real classrooms in  across the region and a digital poster gallery highlighting evidence-based practices and practitioner  research. With sessions covering AI in ELT, skills-based learning, education in crisis contexts, and  teacher leadership, the conference reflects the realities teachers face today and prepares them for what’s  next.

“ASEAN TeachingEnglish is a great opportunity for English teachers in the Philippines to learn from global  experts, regional leaders as well as fellow classroom teachers, and gain practical tools to help enrich their  students’ language learning experience. The conference will be held online, is completely free, and is  open to all. Teachers should not miss this chance to connect, learn, and grow with fellow educators across  the region,” added Lotus Postrado, Country Director of the British Council in the Philippines.

The British Council is working with educators, ministries, universities, and teacher associations across  Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar, the Philippines, Malaysia, Laos and Cambodia to ensure  locally grounded content, delivered through a unified regional platform. Sessions will be broadcast in  accessible time zones and streamed live to social media, ensuring broad participation. With a focus on  classroom-ready tools, scalable development models, and low-tech solutions in high-need  settings, the conference aims to have a long-term impact on how English is taught and learnt across  ASEAN. Outcomes will be measured through a combination of engagement metrics, feedback surveys,  and follow-up studies assessing how teachers apply strategies in their own classrooms.

Registration for the conference is free. To sign up, visit: https://www.britishcouncil.or.th/en/programmes/teach/asean2025
