Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez-Alcasid took to X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, October 2, to slam corruption and call for accountability following the devastation brought by the magnitude 6.9 earthquake in Cebu.

In a series of posts, the singer-actress vented her frustration over the government’s handling of public funds, particularly in relation to flood control anomalies, and questioned why no one has yet been held liable.
“May nakasuhan na ba?” Regine wrote, before lamenting how ordinary citizens are burdened with taxes.
“In the meantime we continue to pay taxes. Taxes na pinagpaguran natin lahat may tax baka isang araw magising tayo na ultimo hangin may tax na .”
She ended with a sharp call directed at public officials: “Lahat ng ninakaw itulong nyo sa Cebu!!!!!”
Her remarks came as Cebu Province was placed under a state of calamity following the September 30 quake. According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), at least 170,000 individuals across Central Visayas were affected. As of Thursday morning, 72 people were confirmed dead and around 300 were injured, with the highest number of casualties recorded in Bogo City, the quake’s epicenter.
Regine’s posts resonated with netizens, with many echoing her anger toward corruption while rallying for direct aid to quake victims. Some social media users shared how private citizens and small groups—such as employees pooling money in BPO companies—have been sending relief goods, while others demanded that accountability over alleged misuse of public funds be prioritized.
The Songbird’s outburst also aligned with sentiments earlier expressed by other personalities, such as comedian Wilma Doesn’t, who vowed to continue paying her taxes despite widespread frustration over corruption.
