Former Commission on Elections (Comelec) Commissioner Rowena Guanzon drew laughs and mixed reactions online after jokingly saying she would use actor Aljur Abrenica’s singing voice as her “alarm clock” — so she’d have a reason to wake up earlier and avoid hearing it.

On her Facebook post dated October 14, Guanzon shared a photo of Abrenica taken from his viral video performance of “Sugar” by Maroon 5, which had been circulating on TikTok.
“Mahal ko si Kylie Padilla pero napanood ko ’to sakto 12 a.m.,” she wrote. “So gagawin ko ’tong alarm clock para sikapin na gumising ng mas maaga sa na-set ko time para di marinig.”
Her humorous jab immediately went viral, with netizens chiming in with their own witty takes.
One user commented, “Gigising ng maaga para ma-off ang alarm! Hahaha! Magandang idea ’to, Atty!” while another quipped, “Nice one Atty. Ganyan pala dapat, gawin mong alarm clock ang pinaka-ayaw mong kanta para mapilitan kang gumising bago siya tumunog.”
Others, however, came to Aljur’s defense, calling out what they viewed as unnecessary shade.
“Let’s not promote bullying against people who did nothing to us,” one commenter said. “Ang dami nang masama sa mundo, sana huwag na tayong dumagdag pa.”
Despite Guanzon’s playful roast, several fans on Abrenica’s own Instagram account praised his rendition of “Sugar”, saying they actually liked his voice.
The actor, who is currently starring in ‘FPJ’s Batang Quiapo’ and juggling his responsibilities as a father, has yet to respond to Guanzon’s post — though many netizens joked that he might take the criticism in stride.
As one commenter put it, “Iba-iba talaga ang taste ng tao — kung sa iba alarm clock, sa iba lullaby.”
