Malabon City and Taguig City formalize their commitment to adopt GeoRisk Philippines (PH), highlighting the importance of science-based disaster planning and preparedness to the local government.
The signing ceremony was done during the opening ceremony of the 2025 Regional Science, Innovation and Technology Week of the Department of Science and Technology-National Capital Region (DOST-NCR) on November 24, 2025, at the Technological Institute of the Philippines – Quezon City.
Through this collaboration with DOST-NCR, DOST-Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), the local government units of Malabon and Taguig reaffirm their shared commitment to building safer, smarter, and more resilient communities across the region.
In his keynote, DOST Secretary Renato U. Solidum, Jr. emphasized the importance of co-creating smart solutions and rebuilding inclusive institutions for improving the lives of the Filipino people.
“With the recent natural hazards posing different disasters, our country needs inclusive institutions more than ever – the ones that will protect the environment, because when we protect the environment, the environment will also protect us,” he said.
GeoRiskPH is a multi-platform system developed by DOST-PHIVOLCS and institutionalized in 2019 that provides accurate, up-to-date, and accessible geospatial information for evidence-based decision-making. Tools like HazardHunterPH, GeoMapperPH, and GeoAnalyticsPH are used to assess risks and support land use planning, infrastructure development, and emergency preparedness. It is funded by the DOST and monitored by the DOST-Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development from 2018 to 2020.
The 2025 RSTW that featured GeoRiskPH is one of the many initiatives of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) aimed at providing science-based, innovative, and inclusive solutions across four strategic pillars: human well-being, wealth creation, wealth protection, and sustainability. These pillars embody the mantra OneDOST4U: Solutions and Opportunities for All. For more information, visit www.dost.gov.ph
