Kuala Lumpur-based singer, rapper, songwriter and overall dope person, Lil Asian Thiccie, and Sarawakian producer-DJ, dj magn3sium (formerly known as Alextbh), redefine the sound of algorithm-free pop in genre-blurring EP DVD-R.
Synthesizing the world of trancepop and the lost art of earworms, DVD-R is the co-parented firstborn of Lil Asian Thiccie and dj magn3sium. Existing as an alternative to the “gold disc”, DVD-R is a playful nod to the overly manufactured, label-driven side of modern pop.
DVD-R is a four-track, trancepop-fueled, non-stop head-bop that celebrates nonsensical fun in a time when music-making often feels ruled by algorithms. Clocking in at 12 minutes and 12 seconds, the EP loops listeners into an endless cycle of stuck-song syndrome while thriving on contrast—polished yet raw, synthetic yet sentimental. Built from punchy four-on-the floor rhythms, sawtooth synth stacks, and shimmering vocal layers, each track finds the sweet spot between DIY bedroom pop and full-bodied trance euphoria. The focus single ‘RUSSKI’ reimagines the modern love story as a star-cross-cultural Europop fantasy reminiscent of ‘Part of Your World’. It pulses with the wide-eyed energy of two twenty-somethings in their honeymoon phase, channeling naive romance through glittering synths and sugary vocals.
