MediCard relocates to AIA Tower, strengthening healthcare network for Filipinos

MediCard Philippines, one of the country’s leading healthcare companies and AIA Group’s healthcare arm in the Philippines, has moved its corporate headquarters to the AIA Tower in Paseo de Roxas, Makati City.

This strategic relocation reinforces the integration between MediCard and AIA Philippines, formerly Philam Life and is part of AIA Group — the leading multinational life insurer operating in 18 Asia-Pacific markets. The move advances the two companies’ shared vision for a proactive, innovative, and future-ready healthcare system that meets the evolving needs of Filipinos.

“This move is a key milestone in our journey from a local healthcare provider to a fully integrated health company and AIA’s healthcare arm in the Philippines,” said Julian Mengual, MediCard Chief Executive Officer. “Bringing MediCard and AIA Philippines under one roof strengthens our ability to anticipate changing healthcare demands, accelerate innovation, and deliver solutions that contribute to AIA’s commitment to helping Filipinos live healthier, longer, and better lives.”

Established in 1986, MediCard serves individuals, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and large corporations nationwide through an extensive network that includes 18 free-standing clinics, over 1,500 accredited hospitals and clinics, and more than 24,000 partner doctors. The company has expanded its services to include dental and eye care through specialized clinics, supported by its digital health ecosystem led by the MediCard GO app, which offers telemedicine, online Letter of Authorization (LOA) requests, and virtual IDs. This infrastructure integrates seamlessly with AIA Philippines’ Total Health Solutions ecosystem, enabling both companies to deliver holistic, end-to-end healthcare and protection for Filipinos.

Following AIA Philippines’ acquisition of MediCard in 2023, the relocation expands AIA’s health sector footprint and enhances MediCard’s capacity to deliver care. It positions both companies to accelerate innovation, streamline operations, and create a seamless ecosystem that combines MediCard’s broad Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) network with AIA’s life and health protection expertise.

More than a change of address, the relocation signals a bold step in MediCard’s evolution toward healthcare innovation and alignment with global standards. With closer physical proximity, MediCard and AIA Philippines can leverage AIA Group’s international expertise to elevate healthcare services and deliver world-class, future-ready solutions.

Shaping the future of health

This move comes at a critical time when healthcare needs rapidly change, requiring a more holistic and proactive approach. According to AIA Philippines’ 2025 “Rethinking Healthy: What Overall Well-Being Means to Filipinos” research, health is defined not just by a healthy body (52%) but also encompasses mental (30%), financial (12%), and environmental health (7%). The study also found that financial stress is a significant barrier for many Filipinos — 59% cite it as a primary concern, and 47% feel financial struggles limit their access to quality healthcare.

“True healthcare is proactive, not reactive. It should support people in staying healthy and prepared for life’s challenges,” said Melita Teo, AIA Philippines CEO. “By integrating MediCard into our workplace and culture, we are fostering a unified approach to health that empowers Filipinos to take charge of their wellbeing. This naturally extends our commitment to healthier, longer, better lives, and an award-winning culture prioritizing collaboration, innovation, and care.”

The relocation is also expected to boost synergy within AIA Philippines’ award-winning and people-first culture. Shared spaces and resources will enable cross-functional teams from both organizations to collaborate more closely, exchange insights, and develop health and insurance solutions tailored to the diverse needs of individuals, families, SMEs, and large corporations.

A unified vision for Filipinos

This move supports MediCard’s strategy to broaden its offerings beyond traditional HMO coverage, emphasizing dental, eye care, and digital innovations. For AIA Philippines, it represents a renewed focus on strengthening health protection, ensuring Filipinos have greater access to both preventive and protective care.

“With AIA’s global expertise and MediCard’s deep local experience, we are creating a stronger healthcare network that is both world-class and attuned to the realities of Filipino life,” Mengual added. “This is about making healthcare not only more accessible but also more meaningful.”

As MediCard and AIA Philippines come together under one roof, this move sets the stage for greater collaboration and innovation. Both leaders agree this is just the start of building a more integrated, proactive, and future-ready healthcare ecosystem that delivers real value and accessible health solutions to every Filipino.
