Fil-Am singer-actress Frankie McNellis is still overjoyed about her role in the hit ABC series “9-1-1,” which stars Angela Bassett, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Oliver Stark, Aisha Hinds, Kenneth Choi, Ryan Guzman, and Gavin McHugh.
McNellis gave a serious acting performance as Lisa alongside Bassett in the series’ most recent season, which premiered in episode 6 at Hulu and Disney Plus, making her fellow Asian artists in Hollywood proud of her.
On working with the Hollywood legend, McNellis said, “For me, working alongside the iconic Angela Bassett was a dream come true. Let’s say I had the chance to see her acting prowess. I’m still over the moon. I was nervous at first, but I was able to overcome it because she didn’t make us feel like outsiders.”
“I am very appreciative for this opportunity. What I saw on set was Ms. Bassett in her element, as she always is, but also humble and kind,” she added.
According to the young artist, her family was the first to celebrate after seeing the episode, followed by her friends, who congratulated her on her significant achievement as a newbie actress.
“My Filipina mom needed to tell her friends about it. Additionally, I want to thank the Asian community—especially the Filipino supporters—for their support,” she shared.
“I only hope that more Filipinos will take the opportunity to get to know me better. I’m delighted to visit everyone in the Philippines this December. We’ve already planned to visit the country,” she added.
McNellis also recently released two new songs “Do It Like That” and “Super Glue” to celebrate her passion for music.
“Each song is unique in its composition. mōz played me the track ‘Do It Like That,’ and I immediately started laying down vocals. We recorded a few takes, edited together our favorite bits, then began with the chorus,” she said.
“From there, everything came into place. The first demo was considerably poppier, but after midnight—after I completed recording harmonies—mōz isolated my voice, giving us both goosebumps. The stripped-down version felt so powerful that we opted to tone down the extra production and let the vocals shine,” she ended.
