Travel + Leisure Co. has strengthened its commitment to wildlife conservation by adopting 30 sea turtle nests containing approximately 3,600 eggs at the Pag-asa Pawikan Protection and Conservation Center (3P3C) in Bagac, Bataan.
Each nest contains around 80 to 120 sea turtle eggs, which are safely cared for at the center’s hatchery before the hatchlings are released into the sea.
The nest adoption forms part of 3P3C’s Adopt-a-Nest program, a vital fundraising effort that supports volunteer shore patrols. These patrols help protect turtle eggs from poachers, natural predators, and marine pollution. Funds raised also go toward essential supplies, including hatchery materials and patrol equipment.
The adoption was made possible through the Travel + Leisure Co. Travel Green program, which encourages employees to support environmental causes through volunteering and fundraising. Team members based in Clark contributed personally to raise funds for the conservation effort.
As part of the initiative, the company also organized an on-site visit to Bataan. During the visit, employees attended a sea turtle conservation orientation led by 3P3C and witnessed the release of hatchlings into the sea.
“We are incredibly proud of our team members who actively volunteer and donate to meaningful causes like turtle conservation,” said Liam Crawley, President of Travel + Leisure Global Support Services Philippines, the global support center of Travel + Leisure Co. “We have been working with 3P3C since 2022, and this marks our sixth joint hatchling release. Last year alone, we helped release more than 140 hatchlings.”
The Philippines is home to five of the world’s seven sea turtle species, including olive ridley, green, and the critically endangered hawksbill turtles. These species nest along the shores of Bagac and are protected under the Philippine Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act (RA 9147). Despite legal protection, sea turtles continue to face serious threats such as poaching, marine pollution, and natural predators, resulting in low survival rates.
Based in Bagac, 3P3C plays a key role in sea turtle conservation through regular shore patrols, rescue and rehabilitation of injured turtles, and community education programs. Its work highlights the importance of collaboration between local communities and the private sector in protecting marine life.
