LGBTQ content creator Edward Yan has issued a public apology following widespread online criticism over remarks he made about body types and attraction during a YouTube interview.

The controversy stemmed from a vlog uploaded by fellow ‘Sparks Camp’ participant Julian Agustin, in which Yan was asked about his personal turn-offs in a potential partner. Clips from the interview circulated on social media, drawing accusations of body shaming and insensitivity, particularly within the LGBTQ community.
In response, Yan posted a public apology acknowledging the impact of his words and taking full responsibility.
“Since the comments I made in an interview were public, I believe it’s only right that I apologize in public too,” Yan wrote.
“I want to take full responsibility for what I said regarding body types and dating. I realize now that airing those kinds of ‘preferences’ out loud can be harmful and dangerous.”
“I will not justify my actions or make any excuses for what I said. It was wrong, and I am truly sorry for being so thoughtless and insensitive.”
“Moving forward, I will be much more responsible for the things that I say and more mindful of the impact my words have on others.”
The backlash followed Yan’s statements in the interview where he spoke candidly about attraction and physical activity—comments that many netizens interpreted as dismissive of people who do not fit a specific body type. While some defended Yan by framing his remarks as personal preference, others argued that the language used reinforced harmful stereotypes and ran counter to body positivity and inclusivity.
