It was a significant day for PMPC Star Awards Inc as the organization officially signed a contract with businessman and artist The Revival King, Jojo Mendrez, to produce its two major awards events—the Star Awards for Movies and the Star Awards for Television.
The contract signing, held at Supersam Restaurant, formalized the partnership between PMPC Star Awards Inc and Jojo Mendrez, marking a new chapter for the prestigious award-giving body.
Present during the signing were PMPC President Fernan de Guzman, Vice President Rodel Fernando, and Atty. Pauline Dolor Apostol Advincula, alongside other officers and board members of the organization.
Jojo Mendrez is no stranger to production. In his home province of Lucena, Quezon, he has successfully mounted shows featuring some of the country’s biggest stars, including Sharon Cuneta, Ogie Alcasid, and Pops Fernandez, among other prominent celebrities. Despite his accomplishments, Mendrez has maintained a low profile. He once shared that during one of his favorite Sharon Cuneta shows, he was not acknowledged as the producer—a moment he recalled with humility.
Overwhelmed with gratitude, President Fernan de Guzman expressed his delight over the partnership, noting that the organization is now assured of a strong and smooth production for its upcoming Star Awards for Movies and Star Awards for Television under Mendrez’s capable leadership.
For his part, Jojo Mendrez conveyed his excitement in taking on the responsibility. He emphasized his belief in the club’s standards and credibility, having recognized and honored Filipino talents in film and television for decades. He added that success would come through collaboration and shared commitment between both parties.
In the same breath, The Revival King also announced his latest revival single, “Valentine,” originally popularized by Martina McBride and Jim Brickman.
As an artist, Mendrez was also asked about issues previously linked to him, particularly involving Mark Herras. Responding with grace, he expressed his well wishes for Herras and hoped for his recovery from whatever challenges he may currently be facing. He shared his thoughts on emotional struggles being aired publicly:
“If you want to cry, cry in private because people have different types of reactions—it could do good or bad, and sometimes lead to things that are even more hurtful.”
Mendrez also clarified that he is not pressuring Herras to settle any financial obligations, understanding his current situation. He even expressed openness to inviting Herras to perform at one of the awards nights.
Addressing aspiring artists entering the entertainment industry, he offered candid advice:
“It is hard if you don’t have connections—you might get lost, maliligaw ka. And it’s better not to enter into relationships right away, so you won’t have added headaches.”
