Actress Katherine Luna has come forward to defend Coco Martin following the allegations made by Rod Navarro Jr., son of the late actor-anchor Rod Navarro.
Katherine previously worked with Coco during the early years of his career, when he was still starting out in show business and doing independent films. According to her, Coco not only collaborated with her professionally but also extended financial assistance and medical support — along with his current partner, Julia Montes.
In a series of Facebook posts, Katherine expressed her side as someone who personally experienced Coco’s generosity.
“Para sa katulad ko ‘ISA’ sa ‘MGA’ NATULUNGAN AT NAGING KATRABAHO NI DIREK CM NOON, Gusto ko lang magbigay ng opinyon ko patungkol sa taong bumabatikos sa kanya..
“Natulungan ka ni DIREK CM, nung time na lumapit ka sa kanya. Hindi ka na napahiya tapos ito ka ngayon, sinisiraan mo yung taong minsan nagbukas ng bintana sayo nung mga panahon na walang gustong magbukas ng pintuan para sayo?”
She emphasized that help was extended at a time when few were willing to do so.
Katherine also pointed out that rules on set are standard practice and should not be taken personally.
“Hindi ba pwedeng magpasalamat ka na lang? Nagkamali ka nga e, dapat tinanggap mo yung consequences ng hindi labag sa kalooban mo. Hindi yung ikaw pa ang yung feeling victim ngayon.. May mga patakaran talaga ang mga producers and directors sa set para mapaayos at mas mapaganda. Hindi naman pwede production ang mag-adjust para sayo.
“As an actress din before, naunawaan ko yung ganun set up. And dapat tanggap natin yun.”
She said she felt confident speaking up because she has firsthand experience of Coco’s character.
“Buhay akong saksi kung paano naging mabuting tao si cm Hindi lang sa akin. Kahit na nagkamali ako sa kanya noon pero di niya tinignan yun, bagkus mas tinignan nya kung paano ako nag pakumbaba, tumanggap ng pagkakamali at humingi ng tawad,” she stressed.
Katherine ended her post with a message encouraging gratitude within the industry.
“Papaano ka nga naman tutulungan ng industriyang ito kung nakakalimot kang maging grateful! Tinulungan na nga tayo dapat gawin din natin yung part natin. Hindi dapat sinasayang… Pahalagahan at pagyamanin ❤ Peace be with you po! ❤,” she wrote.
As of writing, Coco Martin has remained silent on the issue. However, several personalities have publicly expressed support for the actor, citing his long-standing reputation for generosity in the industry.
