Coco Martin explains delay in premiere of ‘Sigabo’

Actor-director Coco Martin has explained why the premiere of the much-anticipated series ‘Sigabo’, which also stars Julia Montes, has been postponed.

The new show was initially scheduled to air on March 16, following the finale of Martin’s long-running action drama ‘FPJ’s Batang Quiapo’. However, the premiere has been moved to a later date.

Speaking during the finale watch and thanksgiving event for ‘FPJ’s Batang Quiapo’, Martin apologized to viewers and explained that exhaustion among the production team led to the decision.

“Actually, humihingi ako ng paumanhin sa lahat ng mga Pilipino. Sinubukan talaga namin. Nag-shoot na kami ng Sigabo at nagawa na namin ang lahat,” Martin said in an interview with MJ Felipe.

He shared that while filming the new series, the team realized they were already extremely tired after pouring their energy into the final episodes of ‘FPJ’s Batang Quiapo’.

“Habang sinu-shoot namin ito, nakita ng buong team na nakaramdam kami ng pagod… Unti-unti naming nakikita na bumabagal na ang kilos namin,” he explained.

Martin said his directors and producers advised him to take a short break so the team could rest and improve the story further.

“Sabi nila sa akin, ‘Co, nakikita namin sa mukha mo na kailangan siguro nating mag-break kahit konti, mag-isip at mas paghandaan ang kuwento,’” he recalled.

As the leader of the production team under CCM Productions, Martin said he listened to the advice and discussed the matter with ABS-CBN management.

Although the decision saddened him, Martin said the pause would help ensure that ‘Sigabo’ meets the same standard as his previous hit series.

“Kapag buo namin ang Sigabo, sisiguraduhin namin na mula umpisa hanggang dulo papantay ito sa Ang Probinsyano at Batang Quiapo,” he said.

While ‘Sigabo’ continues production, the primetime slot will be filled by ‘The Alibi: Ang Buong Katotohanan’, starring Kim Chiu and Paulo Avelino.

Martin encouraged viewers to support the show.

“Suportahan po natin ‘The Alibi.’ Sigurado ako pinaganda nila ito,” he said.

Following ‘The Alibi’, the mystery drama ‘What Lies Beneath’, starring Janella Salvador, Kaila Estrada, Sue Ramirez, Charlie Dizon, and Jake Cuenca, will air at 8:45 p.m.

‘Sigabo’ marks the first television project together for Martin and Montes in four years since their characters reunited in ‘FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano’.

The real-life couple previously worked together in several projects, including ‘Walang Hanggan’, ‘Ikaw Lamang’, ‘A Moment in Time’, and ‘Wansapanataym’.
