Shiela Guevara-Suntay, the wife of Quezon City 4th District Representative Bong Suntay, has issued a public apology to actress and television host Anne Curtis following the controversy sparked by her husband’s remarks during a congressional hearing.

The issue stemmed from statements made by Suntay during a House Committee on Justice hearing linked to the impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte.
Clips of the congressman’s comments referencing Curtis circulated widely online, drawing criticism from netizens, women’s groups, and public personalities who described the remarks as sexist and inappropriate.
In a statement posted on social media, Guevara-Suntay made it clear that she and her children do not support the analogy used by her husband.
“I want to be unequivocally clear: My children & I do not agree with, and we do not condone, the analogy made by Bong,” she said.
She also addressed claims circulating online that she laughed during the incident and therefore approved of the remarks.
“The news circulating, that I laughed and therefore approved of what was said is false, and I will not allow that narrative to stand unchallenged.”
Guevara-Suntay also issued a direct apology to the actress and her family.
“To Anne Curtis and her family — I am deeply sorry. No woman should ever be spoken about that way, and I understand if words alone feel insufficient. Please know that my heart goes out to you, and I stand with you.”
She emphasized that respect and dignity for women are values she strongly believes in.
“Every woman — regardless of who she is, whose wife or daughter she may be, or whatever her background — deserves to be treated with dignity and respect. That is a value I hold deeply and will never compromise on.”
In the same statement, Guevara-Suntay appealed to the public and the media to keep her children out of the controversy.
“I also make this appeal with all sincerity: please leave me and my children out of this. We are not public figures. My children are children. No mother should have to watch her children be targeted and harassed for something they had no part in.”
The controversy erupted after Suntay used a sexually suggestive analogy involving Curtis during a House hearing. The remark prompted widespread criticism from celebrities, journalists, and advocacy groups calling for greater gender sensitivity in public discourse.
Suntay has since apologized for the comment while maintaining that his statement was meant as an analogy during the discussion.
As of writing, Anne Curtis has not released an official response to the apology issued by Guevara-Suntay.
