TV host and actress Bianca Gonzalez defended herself from criticism after some netizens accused her of being “performative” following her recent comments about governance and the country’s political situation.

The discussion started after Bianca posted on X about the struggles of ordinary Filipinos and the importance of good leadership and proper public service.
“Ang gusto lang naman ng mga Pilipino ay mapagaan ang buhay, na ang buwis na kinakaltas sa araw araw at sa sweldo ay maibalik sa paraan ng serbisyong pampubliko,” she wrote.
“Ano bang kailangang mangyari para matupad yun, para magkaroon ng sistema’t liderato na tunay na para sa tao?” she added.
Her statement came amid heightened political tensions following the Senate leadership change involving Alan Peter Cayetano replacing Vicente Sotto III, as well as the resurfacing of Senator Ronald dela Rosa amid issues connected to the International Criminal Court.
However, some netizens questioned Bianca’s consistency, pointing out her friendships with personalities linked to political figures from different camps, including Toni Gonzaga and Mariel Rodriguez.
One netizen commented, “Ate Biancs, your dedication to performative politics should honestly be studied.”
Bianca immediately responded and stressed that her advocacy for good governance began long before social media became dominant.
“I’ve been around way too long in the fight for good governance, since pre social media days, to be categorized as performative,” she replied.
“Hindi po ako ang kalaban,” she added.
Lifestyle and culture writer Tito Saul also came to Bianca’s defense, arguing that political differences do not automatically require people to completely cut ties with friends and family.
He pointed out that maintaining relationships despite ideological differences can still create opportunities for meaningful conversations and influence.
“Converse, if you must, but an attack? Unnecessary,” Saul wrote.
Bianca later thanked him for the perspective, responding: “Converse, not attack, very well said at ‘yan din ang lagi kong pinapaalala sa sarili ko!”
