Actress Angelica Panganiban and her husband, Gregg Homan, have decided to keep their four-year-old daughter, Amila Sabine “Bean” Homan, away from social media as she grows older, saying they want to protect her privacy and allow her to make her own choices in the future.
In an interview with veteran broadcaster Karen Davila, Angelica revealed that they stopped uploading family content on their YouTube channel once Amila became old enough to fully communicate.
“Kung nakikita ng mga tao, we used to have a YouTube channel. Nu’ng buo na siyang magsalita, tinanggal na namin,” she shared.
The actress explained that she does not want her daughter to grow up with her childhood permanently documented online.
“Ayoko na siyang ma-involve sa social media. Ayoko na rin kasi na balikan niya ako at some point in her life na bakit ko ’yun ginawa sa kanya.”
Angelica said she and Gregg mutually agreed to limit Amila’s public exposure, although they remain open to opportunities such as endorsements that do not require their daughter to be active on social media.
“We agree, parehas kami ng husband ko, na okay kami to do endorsements pero hindi sa social media.”
The couple also supports proposals banning social media use for children below 16 years old, a policy already being implemented in Australia, Gregg’s home country.
“Agree kami do’n. Australian ang aking husband, eh, ‘di ba do’n nanggaling ’yon? So, yes, agree na agree kami do’n,” Angelica said.
Beyond social media, the celebrity mom shared that they also strictly regulate Amila’s gadget use. While their daughter has access to an iPad, it is used only on limited occasions, such as while having her hair fixed, and only educational content is allowed.
Angelica also spoke about the kind of relationship she hopes to build with her daughter.
“Gusto ko siyang lumaki na ako yung best friend niya—na pag may problema, ako lang lagi yung tatawagan niya. I want her to feel safe with me.”
As an only child for now, Angelica said she hopes Amila develops meaningful friendships while always considering her parents as her safe space.
The actress also revealed that they plan to enroll Amila in a coeducational school to expose her to different kinds of people and experiences as she grows up.
Despite wanting to protect her daughter, Angelica said she does not intend to shield Amila from life’s inevitable heartbreaks.
“Gusto ko siyang magmahal ng katulad ko—yung hindi sumusuko sa love kahit masaktan siya. Love again, try again.”
