Actress-comedienne Kakai Bautista has come to the defense of content creator and PBA courtside reporter Apple David, who has been facing criticism over her relationship with basketball player Chad Gammad because of their 15-year age gap.
Apple, 33, recently confirmed that she is dating the 18-year-old athlete, sparking widespread debate on social media. While some defended the couple, others raised concerns and accused Apple of grooming.
Reacting to the online backlash, Kakai questioned why so many people were upset over the relationship.
“Bat galit na galit kayo kung nagkagusto ang 18 years old sa kanya? BUHAY NYA YAN.”
She continued: “Pinakealaman nya ba yung BUHAY nyo nung naglandi kayo?”
Kakai also criticized what she described as misplaced priorities among some social media users.
“‘Yung mga pinupuri nyo nga ng husto sa social media na mga hitad dahil namimigay ng pera eh kabit ng mga pulitikong magnanakaw, tapos yung MASAYA lang ayaw nyong tigilan?”
She argued that people should only object if the relationship were causing harm to others.
“Kung ikakasama ng buhay nyo or pineperwisyo kayo, OR APEKTADO ang ekonomiya dahil sa relasyon nila dun kayo mag aklas. JUSKOWLORD. BANSA ng mga walang bahid ng kasalanan ang Pinas eh.”
Following her comments, Kakai herself became the subject of criticism, with some netizens accusing her of being an “enabler” and expressing disappointment over her stance.
In a video posted on July 4, the actress addressed the backlash directly, saying she did not understand why she was being labeled an enabler.
“Guys anong enabler pinagsasabi niyo?”
Kakai maintained that if critics truly believed a crime had been committed, they should file a formal complaint instead of attacking people online.
“Kung sa tingin niyo nga na masama nga ‘yong ginagawa, mag-file kayo ng complaint.”
She also said she had researched the issue herself and found no legal complaint against the couple.
“I researched everywhere, wala naman nag-complain about their relationship. Kayo lang ang maingay. And whatever it is that they have, I’m happy for them.”
Kakai reiterated that she would only change her position if legal action were filed.
“Balikan niyo ko kapag kakasuhan na si Apple David, okay?”
She also encouraged people to allow others to be happy rather than constantly judging them.
“Hayaan niyo nang maging masaya ‘yong tao.”
The actress’ remarks continued to generate mixed reactions online. While some agreed that the relationship was a private matter, others argued that legality and morality are separate issues, maintaining that the discussion extends beyond the age gap itself.
Prior to Kakai’s statements, Apple David also denied allegations that she had groomed Chad Gammad, saying those who believed any wrongdoing had occurred were free to report the matter to the proper authorities.
