An old Instagram comment apparently made by Carlos Agassi on one of Shanaia Gomez’s posts has resurfaced online, adding another layer to the ongoing controversy surrounding the actress’ story about a male celebrity who allegedly persistently messaged her when she was 14 years old.

Screenshots circulating on social media show a March 2016 post from Gomez, with a comment appearing to come from Agassi’s verified Instagram account.

“Wt city u in @shanaiatabuac [smiley],” the comment read.

The screenshot quickly gained attention because Gomez previously shared a story about an unnamed male celebrity who allegedly kept messaging and asking when they could meet while she was still 14.

Although Gomez did not publicly identify the celebrity in her original account, netizens subsequently mentioned Agassi’s name in connection with the story.

The resurfaced comment prompted another wave of reactions online, with some users pointing to the internet’s “digital footprint” and questioning Agassi’s previous response to the controversy. Others also posted harsher accusations against the actor. However, the resurfaced comment by itself only shows that an account bearing Agassi’s verified handle commented on Gomez’s post; it does not independently establish the full context or extent of any private exchanges between them.

Before the screenshot resurfaced, Agassi and his wife, Sarina, had already released a video addressing the actor’s name being dragged into Gomez’s story.

“So ayan, gusto lang namin i-share yung feelings namin today, kasi marami kaming videos na napanood ng mga babae na sinisiraan yung asawa ko,” Sarina said.

She questioned why screenshots and interactions dating back several years were being brought up again.

“Like, imagine eight, nine, ten years ago pa yon. Talagang tinagu-tago nila yung mga screenshots na yun. Hindi ba kayo maka-move on? Wala na bang bago?” she said.

Sarina also questioned the intention behind resurfacing the issue and stressed that she and her husband are happily married.

Carlos, meanwhile, acknowledged that he used to message several women when he was still single.

“Yung years ng timeline noong single ako, parang kapag single ba, bawal bang mag-date nang mag-date o kahit sinong chukchakin?” he said.

He also emphasized that messaging someone did not necessarily mean that a meeting or physical encounter had taken place.

“Tsaka nakakatawa, message pa nga lang ito, hindi pa nga kami nagkikita, nagde-date, walang hawak man lang sa kamay, walang man lang chukchakan, na-in love na,” Agassi said.

Sarina defended her husband and criticized content creators whom she believed were using old material in ways that could hurt other people.

“Kami ng asawa ko, content creator din kami. Gumagawa rin kami ng content, pero hindi kami nananakit ng tao—yung may naaapakan kang ibang tao—never na ganun yung content namin,” she said.

Carlos also fired back at those continuing to discuss his past.

“Wala ka bang talent? Hindi ba maka-move on? Wala ka bang jowa? We’re happily married. Lahat ng may kilala sa amin ay alam na lagi kaming magkasama. Hawak niya ang phone ko. Wala kaming secrets. Sabay gaganyan ka,” he said.

The couple ended their video by saying they wanted fellow content creators to be mindful of how their posts could affect other people.

The resurfaced 2016 Instagram comment has since renewed online scrutiny of the controversy, particularly because of Gomez’s age at the time.

As of this writing, Agassi has yet to publicly address the specific screenshot of his old comment now circulating online.
