  • Iza Calzado posted a photo on Instagram to support the #TimesUp Movement.
  • The Weinstein effect reached the Philippines when Filipinos also started speaking out about sexual harassment.
  • #MeToo went viral in October 2017 to denounce sexual assault and harassment.

Iza Calzado recently posted a photo of Oprah on Instagram, supporting the #TimesUp Movement. Hollywood artists wore black during the Golden Globes to support the said movement.

The #TimesUp Movement is against sexual harassment and was just founded this year, 2018. The movement remains as a response to the Weinstein effect and #MeToo.

“Trust @oprah to give the best speech that can touch our hearts and wake up the fire in us. It is truly time to see the change and have a balance of power in this world! Mabuhay Ka, Oprah! ❤️ #timesup”

The Weinstein effect also became a global trend where people, mainly women, come forward to accuse famous or powerful people, mostly men, of sexual misconduct. The term also came from a wave of sexual abuse allegations against film producer Harvey Weinstein.

The Weinstein effect reached the Philippines when Filipinos also started speaking out about the same issue accusing members of local indie bands of sexual misconduct. Vandals on the Wall announced that they revoked their invitation for Jensen and the Flips to perform for their Year-End event. SUD also axed out of the 2018 UP Fair.

#MeToo also went viral in October 2017 to denounce sexual assault and harassment. Saab Magalona retweeted actress Alyssa Milano’s tweet.
