Coca-Cola brings together today’s greatest OPM artists for the Coke Studio Homecoming

  • Coca-Cola ambassadors found their way back home during the Coke Studio Homecoming.
  • Coke Studio Homecoming featured some of today’s greatest OPM artists.
  • Coca-Cola launched the Coke Studio TuneCycle campaign.

In line with Coca-Cola’s commitment to empower the youth, Coca-Cola tapped into young Filipinos’ love for music through Coke Studio PH in 2017. For this year, Coca-Cola took many young music lovers to a trip down memory lane on September 1st as it brought together some of the country’s best and classic OPM artists today for the Coke Studio Homecoming, held at the World Trade Center.

Not only did it provide the youth an avenue to show their love and support for local music, but Coca-Cola also gave both the artists and the listeners a new home.

While the previous season brought together veteran artists and budding musicians, this year’s Coke Studio Homecoming called Filipino artists who have shared their talents to the world to return to their roots and bridges them with homegrown talents who have yet to stand on the international stage. From this colorful mix of talented Filipino singers and bands, Coke Studio Homecoming featured groundbreaking, new collaborations between artists, as well as unique renditions of their original songs.

Coke Ambassadors Lilet and Nikki Gil were there to bring nostalgia as they performed “Tomorrow’s People” and “Sana” after how many years. Coke Studio Homecoming also featured familiar faces, including the brand’s most memorable endorsers and Coke Studio artists from the first season including rapper-songwriter Abra.

The music-filled night was opened by one of this generation’s favorites, Ben&Ben. The charming band performed their hit songs including Ride Home, Leaves, and Kathang Isip.

The band was followed by Sam Concepcion, who hyped the crowd with his dance moves and with his hit song Mahal Na Mahal.

Khalil Rhamos then graced the stage with his performance of cover songs including Iris.

Fourth performer of the night was Shanti Dope, one of today’s most-loved rappers in the industry. He performed the crowd’s favorite Nadarang.

Since we’re on the topic of this generation’s greatest singer-songwriters, Quest was also included in the lineup of artists. He sang Walang Hanggan, an ultimate heartbreaker, but one that the crowd loved. Quest also took the opportunity to thank the young OPM lovers for their continued support. He then called Sam Concepcion back on stage to perform their hit collaboration song Dati.

Coke Studio Homecoming didn’t only feature singers, as it also had Juan Miguel Severo, a spoken word artist, on stage. Juan Miguel performed some of his best spoken word pieces including “Naniniwala Ako” and “Kapag Sinabi Kong Mahal Kita”. Unlike the energetic and loud audience during the previous sets, the crowd was almost too silent during Juan Miguel’s set–a sign that everyone was taking his pieces to heart.

After that silent yet heartfelt moment, IV of Spades brought back the energy as they performed their hit songs “Hey Barbara”, “Where Have You Been My Disco” and “Mundo”. As one of today’s most favorite bands, IV of Spades got everyone jumping and singing.

Last on the lineup of artists was KZ Tandingan. KZ gave an all-out performance, as usual, which energized and hyped up the crowd even more. KZ performed her renditions of Rolling In The Deep, Tadhana, and Laklak.

To cap the music-filled night, Patty Chiu played some more tunes.

Other Coke Studio Homecoming artists were Moira Dela Torre, December Avenue, and AJ Rafael.

While uniting teens through music, Coca-Cola takes it a step further by enabling them to do their part for a greater cause. This year, Coca-Cola announced its goal to collect and recycle the equivalent of every bottle or can it sells globally by 2030—a goal in line with the company’s vision of a World Without Waste. This is why during all Coke Studio events, Coca-Cola encourages teens to deposit their PET bottles in designated recycling bins.  The Coke Studio TuneCycle, a stationary bicycle that also grinds PET bottles, will also be a staple in Coke Studio events. These ground PET bottles will later on be turned into eco-bricks.
