- Star Magic team wins in ‘Kapamilya Playoffs in Taiwan’
- It was a close fight between the two teams, with the Star Magic team winning only with four-point lead
It was a weekend packed with exciting basketball games after The Filipino Channel (TFC) organized the “Kapamilya Playoffs in Taiwan”, the first basketball event of TFC in the country which happened last November 18 at the Fengyuan District Stadium, in Taichung, Taiwan.
“Through this event, we were able to bridge our fellow overseas Filipinos in Taiwan back home by having them enjoy and play a basketball game, not only among themselves but also with some of their favorite artists,” said ABS-CBN North Asia Country Manager Eric Santos.
The event was kicked off by the exciting game between the TaiPhil South Taiwan Team Visayas and RJD North Taiwan Team Saints. Their match was intense that the TaiPhil South Taiwan Team Visayas won only by one point and will go head-on-head against the Star Magic Team.
The Star Magic Team is composed by Gerald Anderson, JC De Vera, Ronnie Alonte, Axel Torres, Zeus Collins, Jimboy Martin, JV Kapunan, Jose Sarasola, Gerhard Acao and Joe Vargas.
Before the much-awaited second game, ten participants joined the Shoot That Ball game where seven winners took home a basketball jersey with signatures from the Kapamilya stars.
With everyone hyped up with the last match that day, loud cheers welcomed the Taiwan Overseas Filipinos Team and the Star Magic Team when they were called to enter the court.
The first half of the game was already heated up, with the first half ended with a score of 44-48, in favor of the Star Magic Team.
While the players strategize with their game, Dancefloor Royalty Maja Salvador prepared a show-stopping halftime performance. Her energy was so high that she had the audience singing and dancing along with her every performance.
When the basketball match resumed, everyone was fired up, making sure that the defense was tough, and every shot is accurate. At the end of the rigorous game, the Star Magic Team was hailed champions with four-points lead in the game.
Named as Rookie of the Year was Ronnie Alonte, who is also part of the Mythical Five together with other Kapamilya stars Gerald Anderson and Jimboy Martin, and Michael Bangloy and Louie Bayeta from the Taiwan Overseas Filipinos Team. Also named as Most Valuable Player is Jimboy Martin.
The Star Magic Team applauds the performance of the Taiwan Overseas Filipino Team during their game, and thanks them for giving time to play a basketball match with them.
Gerald further adds: “Sana nakapagbigay kami ng inspiration and sana nag-enjoy ‘yong mga tao dahil ‘yong ibang OFW na andito ang tagal nang hindi nakauwi sa Pinas. So kahit papaano sana nadala namin ang feeling ng Pinas sa kanila (We hope you were inspired and enjoyed during the basketball match. Being away from the Philippines for a while now, we hope even for a while, we were able to bring you closer to home).”
On the other hand, Maja was grateful to be given a chance to perform for the overseas Filipinos. “No’ng nagpe-perform ako nando’n ‘yong sabik na sabik silang makita kaming lahat. So sobrang sarap sa pakiramdam na makita ang mga ngiti nila (I felt their excitement during my performance and it warms my heart to know that we are the reason they are smiling),” she said.
After the game, VIP ticket holders got the chance to have a group photo opportunity with the Star Magic Team and Maja Salvador.
