  • Interior designers, landscape architects, expert design curators, members of the academe, and architecture students joined the celebration

Foundree, a progressive learning center for architecture and the built environment, formally opened its doors with an illustrious crowd of Filipino architects and designers as guests.

Among those in attendance were Ar. Ed Calma, one of the most in-demand luxury architects in the country; Ar. Buck Sia, who has been shortlisted for this year’s World Architecture Festival; and Ar. Sudarshan “Sudar” Khadka, a noted advocate for sustainability and two-time winner of the World Architecture Festival Small Project of the Year. Celebrated architects Ar. AJ Javier, Ar. Royal Pineda, Ar. Jason Buensalido and Ar. Nikki Boncan-Buensalido rounded up the room full of talent.

In addition, interior designers, landscape architects, expert design curators, members of the academe, and architecture students joined the celebration—making for an eclectic mix of creatives. But the talent wasn’t confined to the guest list alone. Fittingly, Shamcey Supsup-Lee, Miss Universe 2011 third runner-up and Architect Licensure Exam (ALE) top-notcher, hosted the event.

The fourth of July launch (very in line with Foundree’s goal of being a space where one can freely learn, share, collaborate and be creative) introduced the public to the learning center’s unique philosophy. “We realized that innovations in learning and the learning environment are unfortunately lacking, and with Foundree, we want to change the game, including the mindset of students on enrolling,” CEO and Head of Curriculum Ar. Gerard Dy said in his welcome remarks. “We want real and relevant learning to occur, so the knowledge they’ve acquired here will stay with them when they return to their practice, and well into their careers.”

Foundree’s courses have already propelled some students to success. Dy announced at the launch that one of their first “founders” (students), Miko Angelo Balverde, placed Top 5 in the recent ALE.

Architects looking for further education will also benefit from Foundree’s curated network of experts and authorities in architecture, design and other related fields who can lead learning sessions. “We want to foster and sustain a circular economy of talent—everyone who joins Foundree gains access to a great network of mentors and practitioners, and we hope they join the same pool someday,” COO Edeline Payawal explained.

With such a promising launch event, one can’t help but anticipate Foundree’s exciting future.

Foundree is located at the 4th floor of Elements Building, 560 Quezon Avenue, Quezon City, Philippines. Please check fb.com/foundree and @foundree on IG for class schedules and other information, or email foundreeschool@gmail.com.
