Senator Imee Marcos has called out the Duterte government for its seemingly slow response to the COVID-19 crisis.
In a vlog uploaded on her YouTube channel, Marcos said this is not the time to withhold the government’s money since it’s is very needed to address the pandemic.
“Hindi ngayon ang panahon na magkuripot…Kung may pera man, ilabas na, ilabas na, itodo na ang tulng sa tao. Ngayon na please lang,” said Imee.
She then chastised the executive’s emergency powers saying it doesn’t hold water when people don’t see food, medicine, or testing kits being distributed to the masses.
“Wag na muna yung mga emergency emergency na yan. Yung mga emergency powers baka nasisindak pa yung tao’t natatakot eh. Eh papaano yan wala naman silang nakikita na tulong na pagkain, gamot, testing kit, go na,” Imee added.
In a special session by both Senate and House of Representatives, the Congress effectively gave President Duterte special powers through the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act which aimed to address all problems with regards to the country’s battle against COVID-19.
In that law, the Congress has allocated some 275 billion pesos of government funds to the President to address the COVID-19 threat.
However, it wasn’t yet clear how this emergency powers are being used as people haven’t seen any accomplishments since it was given by the Congress.
In the second part of her vlog, the senator said asked the national government to help the LGUs because they are so much burdened by the crisis.
“Naku tulungan na natin yung ating mga mayor hirap na hirap na. Ang laki-laki naman ng ating mga populasyong sa Metro Manila tulungan na natin tutal andito yung katibayan.
“Sangkatutak pa pala yung bigas, at alam mo naman naggagapas, nag-aani kame sa Ilocos, nag-aani rin kame dyaan sa Nueva Ecija, kilala ko kayo nagtetext kayo sa akin ang mga magsasaka pati lahat sa Isabela alam ko full ang ani kaya wag magalala yung NFA gamitin na ninyo.”
Meanwhile, Imee’s vlog has gained traction on social media particularly Twitter.
While many find the video amusing, some were skeptic knowing their family and Duterte’s ties, many also still didn’t buy her latest stunt saying she’s grabbing the opportunity knowing how the public sentiments on the admin’s COVID-19 response.
