Veteran actress Rita Avila questioned how the government reacts to the corruptions issues in Philhealth.

In an Instagram post containing an art card by ABS-CBN news with Philhealth President Ricardo Morales, Avila questioned if the DDS famous line “Law is Law” is applicable to government officials and allies.

“Ano po ang plano dito? Meron po bang Law is Law sa kanila?”

Retired army general Ricardo Morales hails from Davao City, the President Rodrigo Duterte’s hometown.

After retiring from the military, Morales joined the AFP General Insurance Corporation as vice president and general manager from March 2009 to September 2010.

He then transferred to the AFP Mutual Benefit Association Inc as president and CEO from March 2011 to September 2013.

Duterte initially appointed Morales as head the MWSS in May 2019 but was later moved to MWSS board in June. And then a few days later in June 2019, Morales was appointed CEO and President of PhilHealth.

In spite of the allegations of corruption, Morales seemed to continue to earn the trust and confidence of President Duterte.

In a statement by Senator Bong Go, he said that the President continues to have big trust and confidence in Morales.

“As of now, nabanggit niya (Duterte) sa akin na malaki pa ang tiwala niya kay Gen. Dick Morales. Sa kanyang integridad,” said Go.

Malacanang through Presidential spokesman Harry Roque also said that the President still trusts Morales and he is not inclined to fire the Philhealth President yet.

“The President has said that he will not fire him unless there’s evidence and I think the Senate now is in the process of documenting this evidence.

“He knows that people are counting on PhilHealth at the time of a pandemic and we cannot afford the citizenry to lose their faith and trust in the agency that is most relevant to them when there is a threat of disease,” said Roque.

Meanwhile, in another post, Rita slammed those who are blind to the corruption issues in Philhealth.

She said it’s unforgivable to think that those billions of funds who went the pocket of corrupt officials could be used to buy more test kits, give more aids to the poor and address the pandemic.
